Douglas County Sheriff David Weaver, along with Law Enforcement Bureau Chief Holly Kluth and Citizen’s Public Safety Advisory Committee Chairman Ed Brewer, met with residents of Castle Pines North (CPN) on October 17 to discuss law enforcement plans should CPN become a city.

According to Weaver, neither the level of service nor the cost associated with providing those services would change.  The current 4.5 mill assessment for law enforcement would shift to the new City of Castle Pines North, who would contract with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) to provide the same services for the same dollars.

“The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office provides above and beyond what most law enforcement agencies can offer,” said Weaver.   “The only difference being that, as a city, castle Pines North could choose to make modifications to the law enforcement program and request additional services if they so desired.”

Law Enforcement Bureau Chief Holly Kluth provided an brief overview of the services the DCSO currently provides to CPN, including patrol officers, traffic enforcement officers, K-9 units, a SWAT team, a bomb response team, and others.  She advocated maintaining the partnership between the CPN community and the DCSO.

“If you [the residents of CPN] vote to become a city, it is my hope that you will continue to contract through the Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services,” said Kluth.  “There is a lot of information sharing and crime analysis that goes on throughout the county, and I would like to see the City of Castle Pines North remain a part of that.”

Wrapping up the evening, chairman of Weaver’s Citizen’s Public Safety Advisory Committee, Ed Brewer, educated residents about Ballot 1A, The Justice Center Sales Tax Extension.

“Here’s my theory,” said Weaver:  “If you commit a crime in Douglas County, I will chase you down and put you in my jail.  We need to be prepared for the future growth in Douglas County.”
