Traveling To and From School Safely

No matter the child's age, parents have one thing in common - safety! Follow these simple tips to help children stay safe when traveling to and from school.
  • Map out a safe way for children to walk to school or to the bus stop. Do a trial run.
  • Teach children to follow traffic signals and rules when walking or biking.
  • Explain the importance of using cross walks and listening to crossing guards.
  • Supervise children whenever possible, or arrange for them to walk to school or the bus stop with a friend or sibling.
  • Teach children to not talk to strangers, go anywhere with them, or accept anything from them.
  • Help children to memorize their phone number and address.
  • When driving children to school, make sure to slow down in school zones and stop for all crosswalks.
