Douglas County Open Space and Natural Resources Host
Hikes and Activities

by Carin Kirkegaard

In an area that is quickly becoming urbanized, Douglas County is fortunate to have the Douglas County Division of Open Space and Natural Resources protecting wildlife habitat, natural resources, historic sites, scenic views, and Douglas County’s rural heritage.

In an effort to make some of the natural treasures of Douglas County more accessible to its residents, the Open Space Division will be hosting a variety of hikes and activities throughout the year, most at no charge.

Planting apple trees, moonlit dinner hikes, and raptor viewing represent only a few of the many opportunities available that promote education and understanding of the open space throughout Douglas County. Whether its pruning trees or cleaning up a trailhead, chances for residents to show stewardship for the land abound.

Registration for all events can be made by calling 303-660-7495. For a complete list of activities, visit the Douglas County website at www.douglas.co.us/openspace/documents/Hikefor2006_1.pdf.
