The International Celebrates 20th Anniversary and Brings Crowds to CPN

From August 1 through August 7 golfers, media and spectators will descend upon Castle Pines North to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The International.  Residents of CPN should anticipate an increase in traffic throughout the neighborhood in addition to International participants frequenting local establishments.

Although the tournament runs Monday through Sunday, round one of the competition doesn’t begin until Thursday, August 4.  Phil Mickelson will join past International champions Jose Maria Olazabal, Davis Love, III and David Toms.  Coloradans will welcome back locals, David Duval, Jonathan Kaye and Steve Jones.  The final round will be played Sunday, August 7.  CPN residents will experience the greatest swell of people and traffic during these days.

Monday begins the tournament with youth day.  Without any additional charge, adults with a ticket can bring in as many children ages 12 and under that they can find.  A free lunch coupon, an autograph book, and gift will be given while supplies last.  Youth can also attend a demonstration clinic with master Peter Johncke on the driving range.

Fans of the PGA, plan to attend Celebrity Day on Thursday August 4.  Current and retired athletes and coaches will sign autographs at Founder’s Park between the 9th and 18th fairways.  To find out more about the schedule of events visit http://www.golfintl.com/site/info/index.html

Jack A. Vickers began building the Castle Pines Golf Course with Jack Nicklaus in 1979.  The first round of golf was played in October of 1981.  Twenty years ago, the course was given a spot on the PGA Tour hosting The International, a tournament with a list of pros from all over the world.
