Colorado Humane Society

The Colorado Humane Society, located in Englewood, is lucky to have Hidden Pointe resident Rena Ludwick as a volunteer. Rena dedicates 12 hours a week to the shelter, primarily walking and grooming dogs.

The society, which was incorporated in 1881, is a temporary home to dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and othersmall animals. They also offer educational programs to teach humane and responsible behavior.

Rena has been volunteering with animals since she was seven years old. She used to bring home stray animals, “much to her parents’ dismay!” and has been involved with animals and horses most of her life.

“Volunteering with animals is one of the most rewarding experiences. You are paid back with unconditional love from the animals. Some of them have been through a great deal of pain, abuse and hunger. Just a walk to the park with a volunteer makes their day,” says Rena.
Both of Rena’s children, 9-year-old Jake and 12-year-old Kaitlin, help her walk dogs every Saturday.

The Humane Society is always looking for volunteers, and they have a wonderful children’s volunteer program called Hannah’s Hands.

How can you get involved?

Would you like to start volunteering with animals in need? There are hundreds of ways in which you can help. Following are some resources to get you started – including information on the two associations discussed above.
